Brad Miller

CEO

Brad Miller – President

Brad graduated from BCIT with an honours diploma in Mechanical Technology in 1986. At the age of 25, he purchased his first manufacturing business, Van Ingen (now Advanced Bending Technologies). He later went on to purchase IMW Industries, which he built into a globally successful exporter with subsidiaries in five countries around the world, with over $100 million in revenue and 700 employees. After selling IMW in 2009, Brad continued to invest in the manufacturing space in Canada and the US and currently owns seven companies specialized in marine and industrial manufacturing with a focus on clean tech manufacturing. Additionally, Brad is a significant investor in several tech start-ups in the food processing and medical device sectors.

Brad is also active as a volunteer director on the boards of two foundations, three not for profits and one NGO with a focus on education and health in Canada and Uganda.

Dave VanLaar

PRESIDENT

Dave VanLaar – VP Operations

A mechanical engineer (P.Eng) by education, with significant experience (15+ years) in gas compression & manufacturing, David VanLaar is currently tasked with the day to day operations of all AdvanTec Global Innovations (AGI) companies/divisions. At AGI he has operational oversight and P & L responsibility of both the marine and the industrial divisions. This enables him to make strategic decisions for the entire organization. David has extensive experience managing complex projects from their inception through their completion.

David’s history with AdvanTec starts with AGI’s predecessor (IMW). While at IMW, he was an integral member of the team that made IMW one of Canada’s first “clean tech” success stories. Within AdvanTec David is a recognized leader who is eager to share his knowledge and experience with his colleagues and external partners. Complimenting AdvanTec’s flexibility and nimbleness, David encourages his teams to look beyond the obvious and pursue opportunities outside AdvanTec’s perceived capabilities. In this role he also provides both technical and professional guidance to his teams that enables project/program success.

Darren Toop

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Darren Toop – Plant Manager, BC (Industrial)

Darren began his career as a tradesman. Over the years he worked hard and moved his way up through the ranks to a management position of a small manufacturing company. He left the company to become an entrepreneur and formed a manufacturing company of his own which he owned and operated. Darren eventually sold his business and returned to the production management team of a larger manufacturing facility. This eventually led him to Advanced Flow Systems where he started working as the plant manager in charge of operations at the Maple Ridge location for both Advanced Flow Systems and Surround Technologies.

Rod Paré

DIRECTOR – ADVANTEC INDUSTRIAL

Rod Paré – General Manager, ABT Langley

Rod began working in the manufacturing sector in 1992 and earned a reputation for being both reliable and resourceful. In 1999 he founded a machine shop offering alternative and innovative solutions to his clients. This became a focus and passion for the company. While operating his own business, he became acquainted with Advanced Bending Technologies (ABT) while supporting their machining needs and as a result, joined ABT in 2002. The machine shop he founded became an integral part of the AdvanTec Group as other companies were acquired.

Rod managed ABT and provided working support to co-ordinate staff at both B.C. and Alberta plants. This continued for several years until Rod transitioned into a more active role in business development. Rod is the General Manager at ABT and also supports sales throughout the AdvanTec Industrial group of companies.

Allan Nagy

GM OF SALES – AFS/ABT

Allan Nagy – GM of Sales, AFS

Allan has been with the organization since 2012. His main focus is on the business development, sales and estimation for projects focused on Advanced Flow Systems core capabilities. Prior to joining the team, Allan spent 4 years in construction, working as an Executive Director for a 450 employee electro-mechanical in the Middle East. He also has 10 years of experience working in the automotive industry in Canada and the United States focused on project and production management. In the United States, Allan was part of a core team to set up a new manufacturing facility. Allan received his Mechanical Engineering Degree at University of Waterloo and a Master’s in Business Administration at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.

Allan volunteers for Scouts Canada and his local baseball amateur association.
